Why Chelsea Should Sign Kounde and Kimpembe Despite Having 6 Centre- backs In Their Current Squad

It turns out that the fear that Chelsea’s defense was in precarious situation at the end of last season was just hysterics, it wasn’t that bad as we all thought it was.

After Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both exited Stamford bridge, Chelsea defense was in disarray however, signing a Defender and the return of some loaned Players to the first team have given a new outlook to the defense.

Currently, Chelsea has 6 Players for the position of the Central-back in the squad. There’s Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu.

Kalidou Koulibaly has also been added to the mix after the Senegal International joined the Londoners from Napoli for a fee of £33million.

His arrival means that Chelsea now has 6 Central Defenders in their squad as Levi Colwill and Ethan Ampadu await the decision over their future ahead of next campaign.

Ethan Ampadu got some playing time during Chelsea’s Pre-season game against Club America in the early hours of Sunday. The Welshman create a good impression during his 45 minutes appearance.

He offers more composure, he isn’t scared on the ball and he breaks lines with his progressive passes. He’s actually more better than Andreas Christensen, in my opinion.

There’s also Levi Colwill that many are tipping to be the breakout Star of next season just like Trevoh Chalobah last season.

Despite all of these options, Chelsea are still looking to spend more money on defense as they have reactivated their interest in Jules Kounde and they have made contact with PSG over Presnel Kimpembe.

In case you’re wondering why Chelsea is making these moves, it’s because they want to challenge for titles. If what Chelsea is looking to achieve is finishing in the top four then, they can rely on academy graduates but they want to win titles.

Young Players are usually raw, they need to learn before they get better. More importantly, one cannot expect them to start delivering immediately they get into the first team. Ethan Ampadu has never witnessed Premier League football, same with Levi Colwill.

Imagine putting them against Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Cristiano Ronaldo and other ferocious Attackers in the EPL, these young Players are going to get roasted.

This is why it’s important for Chelsea to get more Defenders. It’s in the best interest of everyone including the club and the Players.
