A replacement for Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger would be the best way to start the transfer window as Todd Boehly and Tuchel search for their perfect defensive rebuild

Could Presnal Kimpembe solve Chelsea’s issues in the search for a new centre-back? There have been some mixed reviews on this, but it looks like Thomas Tuchel and Thiago Silva would be keen on a reunion with the Frenchman.

Chelsea’s interest in french defenders has reached its peak. With a deal on Jules Kounde closing in, there are still a number of spots to be filled within the Chelsea defence. The departure of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, coupled with the predicted exits of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, has left the Blues in quite a pickle. They are scouring through the transfer market, desperate to find a perfect fit for their defence.

I guess it would be criminal, not at least, to explore the possibility of Thomas Tuchel being reunited with a defender with whom he is already familiar, right? I wouldn’t be against the idea. The man who was capable of replacing Thiago Silva is more than likely capable of creating a positive reputation around Stamford Bridge.

According to journalist Christian Falk, Presnel Kimpembe has joined Chelsea’s wish list of defenders alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde. It’s no surprise, as this would not be the first time that Chelsea had been linked with the Frenchman. Last year, L’Equipe reported that Kimpembe was willing to leave PSG for a new challenge. Chelsea was eyeing the opportunity, and with Thomas Tuchel in the mix, their reunion could soon become a reality.

The 26-year-old joined PSG as a ten-year-old and has been in good company since joining their first team permanently. He was following in the footsteps of Thiago Silva, who was partnered with the likes of Marquinhos. He is now valued at £36 million, which, if negotiated, could be a complete steal. He has just two years left on his contract, and with major changes being made within PSG’s hierarchy and management, he is ready to make a decisive decision.

Earlier in the month, Kimpembe said that he would meet with PSG’s new management to establish what the club’s plans are for him. His concerns were not met positively. However, he defended his comments ahead of France’s Nations League match against Croatia.

“I said that I was reaching 27 years of age and that my next contract would be decisive,” Kimpembe said at a press conference while on international duty with France.

“I want to be able to know what the project of the club will look like. I didn’t say anything wrong.

“I joined the club when I was nine or 10 years old. I think it’s a legitimate question to ask my club about the future project and what role I am going to be given.”

Chelsea fans are keen on finding a new centre-back who is just as effective as Thiago Silva. However, they struggle to picture the perfect replacement for Antonio Rudiger. How about the man who managed to take Silva’s spot at PSG in the first place? The Brazilian has reportedly contacted Kimpembe himself.

According to French journalist Olivier Bossard, Kimpembe has received ‘a few text messages’ from Silva to ‘sell him’ the project at Chelsea.

With Antonio Rudiger officially gone, signing Presnel Kimpembe would make perfect sense. The World Cup winner could be the missing piece that Chelsea is currently in need of. The Blues could find their Rudiger replacement elsewhere, but having a trustworthy replacement for Thiago Silva would be a much more difficult task in the future.

There aren’t many options for left-sided centre-backs currently on the market. If Tuchel plans to keep the three at the back formation, getting a close match to what he has already worked with would be imperative.

A player who understands Tuchel. Who knows what it means to play for a top club under immense pressure and a player who has already learned from our very own Thiago Silva. It would be criminal not to consider Kimpembe as an option, especially if de Ligt somehow doesn’t find his way to west London
