Mount nominated for Premier League annual award

Mason Mount has been named on the shortlist for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award, which also includes Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher.

Mount and Gallagher – who has spent this season on loan at Crystal Palace – are among the eight players in the running to receive the honour, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace), Declan Rice (West Ham United), Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka (both Arsenal).

ALL 11 goals & 10 assists so far! | All the goals & assists: Mason Mount

Mason Mount has become only the 5th player in Chelsea history to notch 10 or more goals and assists in a Premier League season! Watch them all here…

The winner of the Young Player of the Year award will be decided by supporters and you can cast your vote here now, until the poll closes at 6pm (UK time) on Monday 16 May. The winner will be revealed at 1pm on Saturday 21 May.

The honour would cap what has already been a fantastic campaign for Mount, during which he has helped Chelsea win the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, with the chance of further silverware when we face Liverpool at Wembley in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Mount got his 11th goal and 10th assist of the season in the Premier League at Leeds on Wednesday evening

He has shown fine form in the Premier League, too, as this nomination proves. Our last fixture away at Leeds United saw him net the opener before setting up Christian Pulisic for our second in a 3-0 win.

That took him to 11 goals and 10 assists in the 2021/22 Premier League in total, the first time he has reached double figures for both in the competition in a single season, and only the fifth person ever to achieve that feat for the Blues, joining illustrious company in the form of Didier Drogba, Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard and Juan Mata.

Mount’s 11 goals also make him our top scorer in this season’s Premier League, while the 23-year-old’s importance to Thomas Tuchel’s team is further underlined by the fact only Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger have made more than his 31 league appearances.

Academy graduate Gallagher has impressed in his second Premier League loan at Crystal Palace

Gallagher has also impressed in his second season in the top flight, on loan with Crystal Palace during a campaign which could still end with the club’s record Premier League points tally.

He has been a key part of manager Patrick Vieira’s plans, making 31 league appearances, all from the start, contributing eight goals and three assists in the competition. That form was rewarded with the first of his three senior England caps in November.

You can vote for Mount or Gallagher to win the Premier League Young Player of the Year award here now.
