Chelsea transfer news: Romelu Lukaku changing representative with view to Inter return talks

Published

on

Romelu Lukaku has reportedly parted company with his agent and a new representative could oversee a transfer from Chelsea to Inter Milan.

Chelsea broke their transfer record to bring Lukaku back to the club from Inter Milan last summer. The former Manchester United striker had just won Serie A in the second of two productive seasons in Italy.

However, he has struggled to replicate the same form in front of goal since. His first season back at Chelsea ended with just 15 goals from 44 games. It was his lowest tally since his final season with Manchester United in 2018-19.

Lukaku has made no secret of the fact he was happier at Inter. It has led to a tense relationship with Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel.

But things have also been boiling over with those representing the striker. A couple of weeks ago, Lukaku appeared to criticise his agent in public after comments about fixing a “problem” by returning to Serie A.

Lukaku wrote on Instagram: “Never ever will I let someone speak for me. I kept my mouth shut and focused on helping the team and end the season in the best way possible.

“So if someone out there trying to say something about me and the club. Not in my name. RL.”

Now, CaughtOffside are claiming Lukaku has left the P&P agency, led by Federico Pastorello, in favour of an independent lawyer

The new representative could be busy in the summer transfer window due to Lukaku’s uncertain future. Since Todd Boehly has now completed his takeover of Chelsea, the club can make signings and sales just as usual

Although Lukaku has a contract until 2026, Chelsea could cut their losses by selling him now. They may struggle to recoup their investment, which was in the region of £100m, though.

Inter may just be better fit for Lukaku

The most likely buyers if they are to sell the 29-year-old could well be Inter. Indeed, CaughtOffside say a meeting will take place between Lukaku’s new representative and Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta next week.

Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 appearances in his two seasons at San Siro. His former club are still in the market for an attacker and could look directly back at him.

Inter may well be a better fit for Lukaku than Chelsea, who have not got the best out of him over two separate spells.

Therefore, Chelsea should listen to offers for their frontman this summer – especially since they are now able to sign a replacement who may be more to Tuchel’s liking
